If you would like an overall opinion of your book manuscript and some general suggestions on how to improve it, an appraisal is a good place to start. I will read the manuscript and send you a report on its strengths and weaknesses to help you with your next draft.
Structural editing – the big picture
A structural edit looks at how a manuscript works as a whole. Does the story flow logically and seamlessly? Are the characters well developed? Are chapters in the best place and the right length? Are there potential copyright or defamation issues? Is the tone and language used appropriate for the intended audience? Is there repetitious or redundant information? Are there inconsistencies?
I provide a report suggesting ways to improve structure and give specific examples from the manuscript.
This stage examines a manuscript at paragraph and sentence level. With suggested changes, I mark up the manuscript for errors and inconsistencies in grammar, spelling, punctuation, word usage, clarity of expression and capitalisation use.
Once the manuscript has been formatted, it’s important to make sure no new errors or inconsistencies have been incorporated. I will mark up any errors so that the author or typesetter can fix them. Proofreading is also an important step that businesses undergo to make sure their publications or websites present a professional look.
Writing copy for a website, blog or book blurb can be time consuming and many people just don’t have the required skills. I can help you write the copy you need to build your website, write your blog or entice readers to buy your book.
